A big well done to Isabella and Alexandra who achieved junior bowmen status. both members have shown a great effort and dedication in there achievement, they were both awarded there badges today by our vice chairman Dave Nash.
Two of our members attended the Archery GB Natoinal Series held in Birmingham over the weekend here,s what Happened
Pics from Nottingham.
While we were waiting for the afternoon matches to start Hannah and I put on the hats and Sophie took a picture which she then posted on Twitter and tagged in Archery GB. As a result we won the Silly Selfie competition and the prize was a signed Team GB shirt signed by the entire GB squad.
One of the matches we saw was the Men’s Recurve Bronze Medal match which was won by Patrick Huston of Team GB who qualified for the Olympics by making the semi finals.
At the end of the shooting he came to talk to the fans and Hannah had a selfie with him and his medals (he had earlier won a silver in the Men’s Team Recurve Final).
Today Wigan & Orrell archers attended the second round of the Archery GB On Target Competion at Assheton Bowmen Manchester. the first round was hosted by ourselves at our Wigan venue against Eccles Archery club back in April on a very windy wet and cold day but managed to secure a victory to the second round,
A completely difference day today with the sun in the sky perfect conditions to shoot 6 dozen arrows at 50m in three rounds, the scoring is a little complicated each round won by the team earns points towards the final score, but unfortunately we were unsuccessful in qualifying to Stage 3 being beaten 10 – 7 by the bowmen and ladies of Assheton. but not to put a downer on the day it was nice to be outside shooting on a lovely day meeting new people and doing what we love. Well done Assheton.

Wigan & Orrell Archers is a well established Target Archery Club founded in 1987 as Orrell Archers. After shooting at various locations throughout Wigan, we are currently based at Wigan RUFC and Aspull RUFC during the summer, with Wigan Target Sports Club and Nugent House school, Billinge serving as shooting venues during the winter.
Our Membership consists of Archers of all ranges and abilities – so don’t worry about feeling left out.
We are a friendly and welcoming club that will always try to help anyone in the sport. Help is always on hand from our qualified coaches and from our current members.
Orrell Archers has had many achievements and successes, including:
– Junior and Senior Lancashire Squad Members
– Hosting LAA and Northern Counties Shoots
We are currently planning to reintroduce regular club competitions bases on individual archers handicap scores presenting a ‘level playing field’ and therefore giving archers of all abilities an equal chance of success.
