LAA Affiliated Target Archery in Wigan, Lancashire
Wigan & Orrell Archers is a well established Target Archery Club, originally founded in 1987 as Orrell Archers.
After shooting at various locations throughout Wigan, we are currently based at Wigan RUFC and Brunswick bowling club in Hindley Green during the summer.
With Standish Community High School serving as the shooting venue during the winter.
My three boys and I sort of fell into archery after years of visiting Warwick Castle and 'having a go' with a longbow for a few pounds at a time. After returning from one holiday last summer, I contacted Wigan & Orrell Archers and enrolled in their beginners course.
Everyone at the club were friendly and welcoming and we instantly felt at home. The coaches are all more than happy to help and my boys and I have benefitted greatly from their instruction and expertise. A year on and we definitely have got the 'bug' - attending tournaments (at the club grounds and also representing W&O across the North of England and Midlands), and we all three of us shoot as often as we can at the three venues on offer at the club. Thank you all at W&O.
Wigan & Orrell is a fantastic club to shoot for. The members are friendly and inviting and always willing to help out be it with form tips or trying different bits of equipment. I came to the club at a difficult time after lockdown looking for a place to escape into the outdoors. What I found was a second family.
Although having not progressed through W&O Archers own comprehensive beginners programme, W&O Archers have been most welcoming to both my 8-year-old daughter and me, who became members following an assessment of our abilities. Everyone at the club is approachable and supportive of each other. Furthermore, everyone at the club, in particular the coaching team, are more than willing to help, advise and teach each individual member in order to develop their skills at their own pace through shared knowledge.
The club has a healthy competitive and friendly nature which aims to drive members forwards and encourage involvement at all levels. My daughter and I look forward to continuing to develop through W&O Archers and to participate in more regular club and open competition. Thank you, W&O Archers.
