Wigan & Orrell Archers are excited to announce that this year’s annual Ranking Round & H2H competition will primarily target novice archers. We will host a Metric 122-50 for recurve/longbow and Metric 80-40 for compound/barebow to encourage novices to try out this distance and to allow the rare opportunity to participate in a head-to-head scenario.

COVID lockdowns introduced a lot of newcomers to our sport. People who needed to find outdoor activities because of being cooped up indoors during the lockdown, some of whom have yet to experience competitive archery.

At W&O we recognise that in order to restore attendance levels in competition, we need to empower those newer archers who may yet have had the opportunity to experience competition particularly given as head-to-head is usually reserved for national competition. If we look after the novices now, then inevitably we will restore competition attendance levels at the bigger competitions when we’ve got a healthy number of archers back on the competition scene.
